Best German Pancakes Recipe

German Pancakes are my family’s absolute favorite breakfast.

Well, they are their almost-favorite breakfast. Homemade waffles are the favorite, favorite breakfast of all time, but German Pancakes are an extremely close second. Whenever I make them, shouts of “Hurrah!” and “Oh boy!” fill our kitchen.

They are so easy to make, too. Like super-duper-uper-trooper-looper easy to make. Here’s what you do…

German Pancakes ingredients

You’ll need:

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of white flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Beat the eggs well

Beat the eggs until they are light and foamy.

Add the rest of the ingredients

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

Spray a square baking pan with vegetable spray.

Pour the batter into the pan. Bake at 425 degrees for about 25 minutes.

Open the oven and squeal with happiness when you see your pretty, puffed up German pancake!

German Pancakes with fresh peaches and homemade peach syrup

Serve with fresh fruit, whipped cream, jam, or any variety of syrup you have on hand. German Pancakes aren’t fussy and seem to taste good with almost anything on top of them. We had them with fresh peaches and some of my homemade peach syrup this time.

Homemade peach syrup

Here’s a bottle of my syrup. It’s so yummy. I’ll have to teach you how to make it another day.

  1. Yum! But HOMEMADE PEACH SYRUP??? Please post that recipe!

  2. I’ve canned peaches and made peach jam, but haven’t done syrup. It sounds divine.

  3. Oops, I think the recipe above should read “flour” instead of “folder”. Ha ha…gotta love auto correct! These sound yummy and I’m going to try them this weekend! I love easy, yummy goodness. Thanks for sharing!

    • Oh ha! What a funny typo. I’ve just fixed it. Thanks for pointing it out. It seems like no matter how hard I try to see things like that, but eyes start to see what I think is there instead of what is actually there.

I so very much enjoy your articles. Thanks for taking the time to post. I have a question about the german pancake: As I read through the post, including the part with the photos, the oven temp is listed as 425. But as I scroll down, in the printable recipe card area, the oven temp is listed as 475. Which is the correct temp? I suppose I could take the average and use 450!! :) Again, thanks for inspiring me!! – deborah

    • Oops! I just changed the plugin that manages the recipes yesterday and so I had to retype in the bottom part. I must have mistyped it. The temperature is 425. I’ll get that fixed right away. Thanks so much for asking!

  5. I also love your posts! And I also would love the recipe for the peach syrup ASAP! I have deliciously ripe peaches sitting in my kitchen right now! Another question: what is the font that you use for the Comment posts; it’s beautiful!

    • Thanks, Nola! I’ve just posed the syrup recipe (yay!)

The font I use for the body is: Palatino Linotype’, Georgia, “Times New Roman”, serif

The font that that your name is in is: Great Vibes’, cursive

      Hope that helps!
